KultivateEd Internship Academy
by PlantNura

Mentored research and training in data analytics, predictive breeding and quantitative genetics.

You derive the theory, build every method yourself, and defend what you produce — on real breeding problems, with real data, one to one with a mentor. Two weeks to three months, six mentored hours a day, online or in person in Hyderabad.

Now open

Two tracks, at the length you need.

The stages are the same at every length; the depth is not. Choose a length and see exactly how the days are spent and what you leave with.

Fees

What it costs, by track and length.

Per participant, for the whole internship. The fee depends on the track, the length and who you are, and it is the same online or in person in Hyderabad.

Inside the academy

Mentored means in the room.

Two or three lectures each morning, theory derived rather than recited. The rest of the day on real genotype and phenotype data, and a discussion clinic to close every topic.

The cohort

Who is in the academy.

Interns currently in session, and those who have completed their track.

What you leave with

You leave with the work, and the means to repeat it.

Nothing here expires when the internship does. The code, the material and the method stay with you.

Your repository

Every script, dataset, notebook and rendered report in a version-controlled repository of your own — the full history of how you got there, not just the answer.

The teaching material

Slides, tutorials, worked examples and the hand derivations behind every method. Yours to keep, revisit and teach from.

A pipeline that runs

An end-to-end, documented workflow you can point at a new dataset next week — because you built it, you can change it.

A defended capstone

A technical report in HTML and PDF, rendered with the PlantNura template, and an oral defence with unscripted questions behind it.

Certificate & letter

A signed certificate and a personalised recommendation letter, written from what you actually delivered.

Digital credential

A shareable badge for your professional profile, naming the track and the length you completed.

In development

More tracks on the way.

Register your interest and we will tell you when a track opens — and ask what you would like it to cover.

Who mentors

Mentored by working quantitative geneticists.

The people who wrote the curriculum are the people in the room every day.

Frequently asked

Your questions about the academy — answered.

Who can apply?

Students at BSc, MSc and PhD level, postdoctoral researchers, early-career scientists and professionals who want to work properly with breeding data. You need working knowledge of R — vectors, data frames, writing a function. Undergraduate exposure to experimental design and ANOVA helps but is not required.

Is it remote or in person?

Either. Tracks run online, hybrid, or in person in Hyderabad, with the same live daily mentoring in each case. Say which you prefer when you apply.

What do I need to bring?

A laptop that runs R 4.2+ and RStudio. The toolchain is entirely free and open-source — R, CRAN packages, Git and GitHub — and no commercial statistical package or licensed mixed-model engine is used at any point.

How is each day structured?

Six mentored hours. Two or three lectures in the morning, with theory derived rather than recited; the rest of the day spent working with real data; and a one-to-two-hour discussion clinic to close each topic. A 30-minute mentor check-in opens every teaching day and a written milestone review closes every week.

How am I assessed?

Every daily lab deliverable is assessed independently. The track ends with a capstone technical report and a 20–30 minute oral defence with unscripted questions. The certificate and recommendation letter reflect what you delivered.

Which length should I choose?

The stages are the same at every length; the depth is not. The shortest runs make one complete pass through the workflow. The one-month track derives every method properly. Two and three months add depth — hybrids, covariance structures, cross prediction — and the three-month track ends with a drafted manuscript with you as an author. Use the length selector on each track to compare.

Does it lead to a publication?

The three-month lengths end with a drafted manuscript with your name on it, and the Breeding Simulation track in development is built around one. Drafting and submission are within our control; acceptance depends on peer review, and we will not tell you otherwise.

What does it cost?

It depends on the track, the length and who you are: see the fees. Undergraduate, MSc and PhD students pay student rates. Rupee fees are before 18% GST; participants joining online from outside India pay in US dollars. Highly talented students may qualify for a free placement — send your CV and say which track you have in mind.

When can I start?

Choose a preferred start month when you apply, and we confirm the dates with you by email. Early applicants choose their own dates.
